Brush fire burning in Southwest Miami-Dade
A brush fire burned overnight in Southwest Miami-Dade.
According to Miami-Dade firefighters, 30 acres are burning in the area of Southwest 137th Ave. and 112th St.
Firefighters said that no homes were threatened at this point, but witnesses said flames burned close to dozens of homes, businesses and a church.
Division Chief David Wood said, "Those people should stay in thier homes, no need to evacuate, keep their windows and doors shut."
Florida Power and Light said they were asked to shut off power to 700 homes in the area to help firefighters battle the blaze.
The State Department of Forestry has been called in to help more than 60 firefighters take the 3-alarm fire down. They said the brush fire is 6 acres and started on Monday afternoon.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries from smoke inhalation and was rushed to the hospital, but he is expected to be okay.
